Holding On to the Promise
Share
There will be days when the promise feels farther away than when God first spoke it.
The excitement may fade. The waiting may grow longer. The questions may become louder.
You may find yourself wondering if you misunderstood what God said, if you somehow missed your opportunity, or if what He showed you was only wishful thinking.
Understand this:
The distance between the promise and its fulfillment is not the absence of God. More often than not, it is the very place where He accomplishes His greatest work.
God has never been in a hurry because He has never been late.
He is not intimidated by time. He is not delayed by your circumstances. He is not distracted by your opposition. What He has spoken remains true, even when everything around you suggests otherwise.
The waiting season is rarely wasted.
It is where faith is strengthened, character is refined, motives are purified, and dependence shifts away from ourselves and back to the Father. We often ask God to change our situation while He is using the situation to change us.
Think about Abraham. The promise came long before Isaac ever arrived. Think about Joseph. He received the dream before he ever reached the palace, but there was a pit, slavery, and prison between the two. Think about David. He was anointed king while still tending sheep, yet years passed before he ever wore the crown.
The promise did not fail because time passed.
Neither did God’s faithfulness.
Silence is not abandonment.
Delay is not denial.
What feels like inactivity from heaven may actually be divine preparation. God sees the entire picture while we often focus on the next step. He is preparing people you'll meet, doors you'll walk through, opportunities you'll steward, and perhaps most importantly, the person you are becoming before you arrive.
The promise is not simply about receiving something.
It is about becoming someone who can carry it well.
So keep praying. Keep serving. Keep growing. Keep forgiving. Keep moving forward.
Don't build your theology around your timeline. Build it around God's character. His Word has outlasted kingdoms, generations, and every obstacle humanity has ever faced. It will outlast your current season too.
If He said it, He will accomplish it.
Maybe not according to your calendar, but always according to His perfect wisdom.
“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful.”
Hebrews 10:23
Today, choose to hold on.
Not because you can already see the outcome, but because you know the One who made the promise. His promises are not sustained by your strength, they are secured by His faithfulness.
As always, proceed in faith and keep moving forward.
