I Tried to Do It My Way… 0/10, Would Not Recommend
I would love to tell you that every lesson I’ve learned came from prayer, patience, and immediate obedience.
But that wouldn’t be true.
Some lessons came from me hearing God clearly… and still deciding, “I’m going to try it my way real quick.”
Not because I didn’t believe.
And certainly not because I didn’t know better.
But because somewhere in me, I thought I could speed up what God was trying to build slowly.
And if I’m being honest, that’s where most of the frustration started.
The Confidence Stage: “I Got This”
You ever get that quiet instruction?
Not loud. Not dramatic. Just clear.
“Wait.”
“Move differently.”
“Let that go.”
And instead of following it, you start negotiating.
“Okay God, I hear you… but what if I just do this one part my way?”
That’s where I was.
Moving with confidence, making plans, lining things up, telling myself I was being productive… when in reality, I was just being busy in the wrong direction.
And the wild part is, it looked good on the outside.
But peace?
Peace was nowhere in sight.
The Complication Stage: When Things Start Feeling Off
At first, nothing crashes.
That’s what made it tricky.
Things just start to feel heavier.
Decisions take more effort.
Doors don’t open as smoothly.
The same things that used to flow now feel forced.
And you start saying things like:
- “Why is this so hard?”
- “Why does this feel off?”
- “Why am I doing more but getting less?”
Meanwhile, God is quiet. Not because He left, but because He already spoke.
And now you’re experiencing what happens when effort replaces alignment.
The Epiphany
There wasn’t a dramatic moment. No thunder. No big sign.
Just a realization.
I wasn’t waiting on God.
I was working around Him.
I had the direction. I just didn’t like the pace.
I had the instruction. I just wanted control.
And that’s when it clicked:
Peace didn’t leave me. I walked away from it.
The Surrender Stage: Letting Go of Control
Surrender sounds good until it’s time to actually do it.
Because surrender isn’t just saying, “God, I trust you.”
It’s not forcing what feels forced.
It’s not chasing what’s not responding.
It’s not reopening doors God already closed.
It’s sitting with God and saying:
“Alright… I tried it my way. You can have it.”
And strangely enough, that’s when things started to shift.
Not everything changed overnight.
But internally? There was a release.
Less pressure.
Less noise.
More clarity.
What I Learned About Doing It My Way
Doing it my way taught me a few things:
- Just because something works doesn’t mean it’s right.
- Movement doesn’t always equal progress.
- You can be productive and still be out of alignment.
- Peace is a better indicator than speed.
And maybe the biggest one:
God will let you try it your way… just long enough for you to see why His way matters.
Closing Thought
Trying it my way didn’t make me a failure.
It made me aware.
Aware that I don’t have to force what God already planned.
Aware that timing matters just as much as action.
Aware that peace is not something you chase, it’s something you stay aligned with.
So if you’re in that place right now, trying to figure out why things feel off, this might be your sign:
It’s not that you’re doing nothing.
It’s that you might be doing too much without direction.
Final Takeaway
My way? 0/10. Would not recommend.
God’s way?
Still unfolding… but I can finally say it comes with something I was missing before:
Peace.
As always, proceed in faith and keep moving forward.
